What Does It Really Take To Make The Move?

Your clients and potential residents are overwhelmed, tired, frustrated, scared, vulnerable and sad.

They don’t want to say goodbye to their favorite couch or the fine china. But, the 7-foot-long lime-green plastic-covered couch just is not going to fit in their “new” place and they won’t be giving dinner parties any time soon.

There are junk drawers, closets and cabinets, attics and basements, garages and sheds and outhouses that have turned into sheds that have not been touched in 30+ years…but are chock full of memories of who they were and what they did every day.

Some of the topics that will be discussed:

• What are you thinking when a prospective resident/patient comes through the door of your community or health care facility?
• What are they (the prospective new residents/patients) saying but really thinking?
• Who is your competition? (Answer: Not the health care community down the road.)
• What is empathy (not to be confused with sympathy) and how do you get some?
• Making the move easierphysically for the parents, families and friends.
• Making the move easieremotionally for the parents, families and friends.
• Set the Tone–Exceed Expectations—Make a Difference!

Objectives:

• Create a better understanding of what it really takes to make the move—emotionally and physically for the older adults and their families to a new community.
• Get back to basics: Remember why you got into this business in the first place.
• Put humanity back into the business.
• Improve communication and understanding. Don’t look and feel like the "Walmart Greeter."
• Be motivated to create a real sense of community in the communityresulting in improving census building and customer service.
• Create/Increase empathy (not sympathy) among staff.

Absolutely amazing presentation! Essential information. Hit home. -

Entertaining presentation full of valuable information. -

Lynn guides families through the “everyday ordinary” details of life planning to ease the transition for their loved ones and to give voice to their legacy. She shares not only why starting the conversations are so important, but how to begin. Lynn's honesty, vulnerability, and most of all humor through the use of some wonderfully effective visual examples made everyone feel engaged and comfortable with what could otherwise be difficult topics. She inspired many to go home, think about what has been left unsaid or assumed and then take action to sit down, and tell their loved ones about what is really important. Like the map to the septic system her father bequeathed her, she gave the class a map of ideas to view long-term planning as a personal creative exercise. - C.B. -Yale School of Medicine

“Dynamic! Entertaining! Informative!” are just a few of the comments that were made by audience members after attending a recent presentation given by Lynn McPhelimy . As the Director of Sales for a large Life Plan Community in New England, I have had the opportunity of booking many great speakers throughout the years. Lynn’s presentation is one of the best I’ve seen, she really knows and understands her audience! She’s passionate about what she does, because of her genuine compassion for people. - Terry Dooley, Spectrum Consultants

I will never be as organized as I would like to be, but, I hope I will always laugh the way I laughed in this last hour. Terrific! -

We marveled at the fact that Lynn presented the material in a fun and realistic way. - T.E.
